programming xts5k

I recently came into ownership of an XTS5000 but I neglected to think about the fact that I only had CPS 8.00.00 and the radio has 9.00.01 firmware on it so I can't read it. Short of going to /\/\ for an upgrade on my CPS, is there a way around that?

Nope but if you have a valid subscription you should be able to download it of MOL.
If not get one and you will have free updates for a few years.

Subscription is free for 3 years, comes with your purchase of CPS. I believe the ASTRO25 CPS is $276.
