I am very green when it comes to using DOS software. I have a MTX8000 and a JT1000 and I am currently waiting on my MTS2000 to arrive.
I purchased a ribless cable on fleabay from a seller who I purchased my ribless cable for my HT/CDM software. I have not had a problem with that cable at all. On the other hand I have tried to use 03.03.00 to make some changes to my JT and I keep getting a message "rib communication unsuccessful" and that there is either a problem with the rib not having power, rib malfunctioning, poor connection between rib & pc, or serial card malfunctioned. I have tried this with 3 seperate computers with the same results. I have also tried to read my MTX with 06.04.00 and 06.07.00 with the same result. I have checked to make sure that the cable is on the right com port and still nothing. Do I have a bad cable? Or does this all require an actual rib box and related items?

Your question has been asked(and answered) here more times than I can count. The first step is to look at http://www.batlabs.com/newbie.html
If things still don't work after you check the above and are sure your programming equipment meets the prerequisites, then come back here and ask. You stated that you tried using 3 different PCs....do any of them meet the requirements listed in the link above?

Still In Need Of Help
I ran my RSS on an older machine with DOS and I am still getting the RIB error message. I had a relative of mine that is an electrician take a look at the cable and he noticed that there appears to be a 5v 78LO5 regulator on the pc board. He said there is no voltage present at all at the pin on the radio side connector. He believes the regulator is bad. I have tried locating a drawing of this ribless cable but of course I didnt expect to find one. So the question now is if there supposed to be 5v at the radio side connector?

Problem Solved
I appologize for being a pain in the A$$. It was definitely a learning experience. I have ran only CPS up till this point and Jedi radios and RSS is a whole different monster. I guess it helps to have to a fully charged battery and I had to make a few changes in the bios of the computer but my issue has been solved. I was able to read the codeplug and write to the radio I was trying to make changes too so i guess its all good.... for now. For those who have helped me and have showed great patience with my boneheaded knowledge on this topic, I appreciate all your help.
