MCS2000 Software Upgrade - Help

Post by RADIO43 »

Guys,

I am updating my MCS2000 software on my computer but everytime I go to do the install, it is telling me a previous older version of the MCS2000 software is still on the computer. I have went through my computer numerous times and uninstalled both my previous version of CPS and RSS for the MCS2000 from the computer. I am using Windows 98 SE (Programming Computer) and had to manually delete the programs from their respective folders to get rid of them since they did not appear in the uninstall menu. I have a felling that a .dll file or some other file is remaining some where in the files. Any help would be appreciated.

if you deleted them manually then it's still in the registry so the computer thinks it's still there. you will probablly have to go into the registry and manually remove everything that's related to the mts. and if those programs were missing from the add/remove list then i'm guessing you had some computer problems in the past that has messed up the registry and there are more programs that are installed that are not listed. your best bet in the long run will be to re-install windows, that will fix all the registry problems.

well since you had to ask where to find the registry i'm assuming you have never messed with it so i'm gonna suggest you stay away from it. the registry is the heart of windows. one small mistake and you will have to re-install windows to get any of it to work again so that's what i'd suggest you do instead and save yourself the time. and deleting the common files was not the way to go, now you are probablly not going to get any of the programs to work correctly that were in there.

HLA,

I restored all my Common Files back and everything is working great. I know how to get into the registry but just not sure exactly what folder the MCS2000 Files are located. You would be correct is saying that I am not very similar with the Registery but have been there before. Thank you again.

if you want to try it you are on your own if something happens and the only fix is to re-install windows. but if you click start then click run type regedit in the box and enter. you will be at the registry. good luck.

I suggest you re-install the older CPS version first, then use the control panel to properly uninstall it. That should take care of the problem & allow you to install the later CPS.

wavetar,

I was unable to re-install the older MCS2000 software because the computer is still telling me that there is a previous version of MCS000 Software installed. I have been in the registry and deleted all mention of MCS2000 Software in there but am still getting the previous version of MCS2000 software still installed. Does anyone have a list of the files that need to be deleted in the registry? Thank you in advance.

you're still missing something, run a search in the registry and look thru everything motorola or mcs or anything else you can think of. oh and after you delete the files you need to restart the machine. if it restarts and you got all of the files removed then you will be able to install the new.

Jeff,

Mission accomplished. Did the search and found all files. The new MCS2000 CPS is now installed. Thank you again.
