ASTRO 25 CPS v9 woes

Post by 5-sides »

Just a heads up in case anyone else gets hung up by this one:

For reasons that have not been made clear (and don't really matter in this discussion), I can't get the mobile updates of the ASTRO 25 CPS. Since I don't program XTL's too often, it hasn't been a problem running v8. Then I loaded portable CPS v9......

Suddenly, any attempt to read/write/clone/etc a mobile resulted in nothing. No error message, no problem with the application locking up or closing, but no response from the computer at all--well, just a quick little blink to let me know I had tried to do something

Tried a bunch of stuff, but it ultimately was resolved by un-installing v9 of the ASTRO 25 portable CPS.

I am looking into why I am not authorized to download the mobile CPS, as my subscription is still valid, but in the meantime, I have my choice of Mobile or Portable CPS on a given compuniter..........I am actually running v8 for both, but I have plenty of stuff that will require v9, so I have that with me, too.

Anyhow, just be aware that the two versions don't play well together. V10 will be here soon enough, I'm sure....

That's pretty much been standard fare for a while now, that if you have both Portable and Mobile on the same PC, and you update one, you'll have to update the other, too. I suspect it has something to do with the common libraries that are shared between the two apps. Your Mobile R08 probably isn't liking the libraries placed by Portable R09.

If you call the 800 number listed at the top of the online
Motorola page, call that number and tell them your
problem. They should be able to confirm your subscription
while on the phone and solve your download problem.

Well, yes and no.

They can confirm that my subscription is for RVN4181, but they can't find the records for RVN4186, which does not help me. How and why I lost the mobile side remains unknown, as I bought both versions at the same time and have renewed both ever since. I need to locate my records in order to show that I should be getting RVN-4186....I know they are here, but I don't maintain them myself.

For the time being, I can survive, as I don't have any mobiles that require v9. It is just a pain to have to carry Portable v9 with me in case I run into a snag away from the shop. I will hopefully have a fresh copy of ASTRO 25 Mobile CPS R09.00.00 legally residing in my laptop later this week. Or later today, which would be really nice....but unlikely knowing the fine people I work with....
