Unorthodox two-tone alerting?

Post by VE9MP »

Here we are dispatched via a special leased telephone line that goes from the 911 PSAP to a Zetron 45B at our repeater site...

We don't have two-tone paging (although the we could program our controller to do it, we don't use tones, and that won't change, too many BS politics involved)

Anyways, I have a nice new Minitor with Stored Voice I would like to use, but since we don't have tone alerts, I was wondering if its feasible to set the tone frequencies to the frequency of the telephone "ring" when dispatch calls our dispatch number...

I recall there being a minimum amount of time for each tone to be present to be recognized by the pager, by I forget what exactly it is... but it was in like milliseconds if I remember right...

The telphone ring is almost like a high-low type of thing; heres a recording... it always rings twice like that when we're dispatched...

Ideas? Think it'll work?

Only one way to find out!

As long as you can nail the specific Hz of the tone, you should be set.

Can you encode DTMF? I was playing around and you CAN alert a minitor with DTMF. All you do is enter in one of the tones for the key you hit.

It works well, as long as the tones are sent long enough and with as little gap as possabile.
