Spectra control head problem

HI wise men!
I have a problem with my spectra. A week ago in my spectra the display is dead. I changed the capacitors but without fortune. When I push the button to turn on the radio, I misuring about 400-500 mA and if I connect the rib I'm able to read and write the radio....but the display not turn on. Someone has an idea? There are fuse in the control head?? There is a white component that appear like a fuse, but I'm not sure if it really is a fuse. Thans in advance for any help.

A few questions to narrow it down...

What model control head?
Do the backlights work?
Does the radio transmit and receive?

My syntor x9000 did the same thing last week, rx and tx fine programs fine but no display, back lights work also

Chances are your chopper power supply that runs the display is dead. Check that first.

Depending on the type of head you have and the only hint you give is to say that you push the button to turn it on, it must be an A4,A5 or A7.

If it's not a quick fix, $h!t canit and replace it with a new one as there are plenty available.

The high voltage supply is a possibility, I believe the usual problem with it is the capacitor that couples the transformer primary to ground, in an A4 head it's C50, should be a black rectangular 10uF/25v cap near the transformer.

The white thing that looks like a fuse is not a fuse, it's the crystal for the microprocessor.

You can also check for damage from leaking caps or liquid spilled in the head, I've seen pins on the display eaten right through.

jackhackett,
the control head is an A5 (board HLN6075D). The backlight not work, the control head appear dead. How can I check the trasformer?.....never do it.
Anyway ......other ideas?

As luck would have it, I have a pic of an A5 head showing the cap in question (and the electo's I replaced). It's the big yellow one. I would carefully unsolder one end and lift it a little off the board, then measure it with a cap meter, if it checks okay you're probably going to need a schematic to do more troubleshooting.
