Maxtrac Logic Board modification

Post by swannie »

Hi all,

I had a quick question regard a MaxTrac low-band D51 radio I recently purchased on eBay, although, I think this applies to all MaxTracs. I opened up the radio the other night, and I noticed that it had a jumper wire from pin 4 or 5 (don't recall, already closed up the radio) on the inter-board connector to the to a cap that on the lower-right hand area of the board (looking at it with the control head facing you).

I realize that's a vague description of the modification, but the reason I didn't open up the radio to get more specific is that this is the second radio I've purchased that has this modification on it. I searched around on the internet but couldn't find anything, of course I didn't have much to go on either. Is this a common modification/fix?

Thanks!
Brian

I have never seen that, so I assume it is not a standard fix.
Give us the exact hookup, and we can probably figure out what they were doing....

Thanks for the reply. I was incorrect before, the wire goes from pin 10 on the inter-board connector. It goes to the + side of a 10uF cap. I don't see any numbering on any of the components, so... with the radio head towards you, it's the first 10uF cap directly to the right of the inter-board connector at about pin 9, just below the volume/preap IC.

As I said earlier, this is the second radio I've purchased (from two different sources) with this same mod. The other was a VHF high-band.

Hope that's a clear enough description. :)

PIN 10 is the VCO MOD.
I can't find a 10uf cap on any of the 3 versions of logic board I have looked at...
Which logic board is it? And is it possibly a 1uf?

...it's possible. Of course, I'm at the airport now, so I won't be able to look for a few days. :)

Thanks again for the help!!!

Thanks!
