Howdy, PJ. The KDT480 is just about as useless as !@#$%^&*(! A large metro PD in my area had them and have recently gone to CDPD.
I find these "Dump Terminals" at the swaps for anywhere from $1.00 to $15.00. The power supply is very primative but will shoot ya across the room if you're not careful. These DT's held about 8K or RAM. That's it. They make great nostalgia or bookshelf ends.

Another thing these KDT480s are good for is for a police car resoration, the unit is a crystaled unit and the terminal firmware is prom programed. I have one that is in mint condition and I use it for my radio collection..

Are these able to be used for simplex two-way text messaging? I would like to setup a simple base to car messaging deal...and these seem fairly cheap in price.

Also, I saw on Ebay a setup that also had a Systems 9000 head, does anyone know what that deal is?

Hello.

Took me a while, but,got 2 talking.

One must be a server, the others are terminals, the hardware is just a bit different in each.
MDC1200 is the protocol.
The 800 MHz radios are maxars.

Thank You.
