Hello all,
I have heard that on astro sabers, pre or post ptt id can be programmed on a channel basis(i.e. chan 41=pre ptt id, chan 12=post ptt id). My question is, on Saber 1E's and saber 2's can they be programmed the same way, or is it that whichever you pick, it applies to all channels in that zone or radio?? I'd appreciate the help.

Post AND Pre PTT ID Question??
"It's all in a days' work"--LAPD/LAFD
On the standard saber, PTT-ID is assigned for the radio.
One advantage to pre-PTT is the ID is transmitted for every transmission. On a post-PTT radio, if you transmit, then turn the radio off before releasing the PTT, no ID is sent. A FD in Illinois was having a problem with members making racial slurs. They finally reprogrammed their radios to pre-ID (unknown to the users) and were able to find the "problem personnel".

Pre-ID is also more useful for things like open mics and officer needs assistance calls.
Example:
Unit sits on the microphone. Radio keys up, sends ID then the classic stuck mic audio. Dispatcher immediately knows who's mic is stuck, rather than having to wait for it to finally unkey and then have the ID sent.
Same thing for officer needs assistance calls. Suppose an officer can't get to the emer button for some reason. Suppose someone is shouting threats or what not that the unit needs to go over the air to be recorded at the logging recorder (I've heard it happen). Pre-ID allows the units ID to be sent IMMEDIATELY followed by the audio in question.
It's a bit of a pain to have to wait a second longer to start talking, but in my humble opinion, the pros outweigh the cons.
