I have a 16-ch MT1000 "CN" currently set for a bandsplit of 146-162 (have not checked chassis to confirm).
It programs fine up to 160. Beyond that, I get a beeping sound, one beep per second apx, when transmitting. No red LED.
Frequencies lower work fine.
I suspect a wrong bandsplit in there, but before I open it up, are there other possibilities for this?
I can program the weather frequencies and receive them fine.

I suggest you open it up and check the modules to confirm the real bandsplit.
I had an identical situation with a MT1000 off of eBay. It worked from 146-160 but the VCO would not lock for TX or RX in the 160-162 region and it would work again above 162.
The labels were missing but it was supposed to be a 146-162 8 channel "CN" converted to 16 channels.
After a lot of wasted effort troubleshooting a VCO problem I checked the module numbers and found it was a really a 146-174 split that someone had dumped a 16 channel 146-162 codplug with 2M ham frequencies into.

Interesting coincidence with you -- I wanted to dump a codeplug from another MT1000, indeed, and discovered it was a 146-174. I took at face value the "will make the radio inoperable" warning that pops up, and stayed away from the idea.
This is the only 146-162 that I've encountered. Not that they may be "rare" or whatever, but don't it figure that the other codeplug data cannot be used.

I was able to fix mine by changing to the correct bandsplit in RSS and reprogramming and then going through all the service adjustments.
I suspect someone may be promoting this 146-162 16channel code plug as a way to convert your 8 channel MT1000 to 16 channel 2 meter use without regard for what type radio you have.

The specific symptom I noticed was that the RX VCO would motorboat or not lock between 159.9 and 162 and the TX splattered or would not lock between 160.7 and 162.
Looking at the "VEE" negative voltage VCO control "Table 2" in the service manual, this matched the range where a 146-162 radio switches to -8 volts. A 146-174 radio wants to see -6 in this range.
I thought I had a control voltage problem until I found the voltage was correct at which point I realized I had better chack to be sure the board was the right bandsplit.
I should have suspected a wrong codeplug from the begining because the alignment was all messed up when I got the radio. It was off frequency and the reference deviation was way too high.

Yep, wrong codeplug.

I am still able to "read' the radio, but I get an ERR 003 when I try to enter frequencies that now say "NONE" and only on channel 1.
Can't even go back to the wrong codeplug at this point. Suggestions appreciated.
