cdm 1250 / m1225 remote mike, is it possible?

Post by GradyMedic »

Can a remote mike be used with the Motorola CDM 1250 and the M1225 Mobile radios?

Is there a kit for sale out there anywhere? I remember a kit for the old MaraTracs but can't seem to find anything except complete remote head kits.

All I need to do is have a second mike in the patient compartment of about 6 ambulances...

Your looking for essentially a dual head mobile radio?

Buying and installing two CDM1250's or M1225's are usually a lot less expensive.

You could probably build a little box with two RJ45 connectors, run some wire, and create a second mic port, a speaker with a pot to turn the speaker up/down/off, and have a "ghetto" but working remote system.

However, considering this is going to be used for hospital communications I would recommend ensuring that you have something that is proven to work, and will work reliably without having to have the skills to mess with it.

I believe there is a company who came out with a dual head kit for the CDM's, but I think it's almost as much as another radio. Plus, depending on what band, there were interference issues in the cabling.

I don't remember the name of the company off hand - it's the same company that made the remote kits for the Maxtrac's.

Dual Head..

Post by GradyMedic »

Nah,
Not really looking for dual head or dual control. Just need a second Mike and Speaker. I considered just making a "Y" cable (RJ 45) and doing exactly what you said. Essentially, There is one med channel that needs to be able to be used from the front of the ambulance to notify the county dispatch that they are running the backup for that they are on scene (you have to contact them directly...) The rest of the time (while patient loaded) The med channels will need to be available to contact the appropriate receiving facility and give a patient report.. But I mounted all the med radios in the back of the trucks in the patient compartment, and it'd be a pain to have to get out of the truck or climb in the back when going on scene with the county in order to talk to them when both medics are up front.

One more question that I know you can answer Alex.. What software is needed to program the CDMs? Its just the Motorola Professional Radio CPS right? (The windows based one...) ?

Also, same question, for the 1225s...

NOT ASKING FOR THE SOFTWARE just the name of it..

It is possible to connect and external speaker and mic to the rear accessory connector of the m1225 or cdm series, we have done it in the past for ambulance to install a handset in the back, when the radio is up front. I'm not sure how we hooked it up, but I will see if someone still has the notes. It should be easy to figure out from the acc connector pinout though.
