Generally, you will not find support for talkabout radios on this forum, as it is generally a commercial radio forum.

You can probably hook it up (somehow) but I think explaining what you are trying to do would be more beneficial than just asking how to hook them up.

Are you trying to program them so that they talk to each other? Are you trying to build a cross band repeater (which would be illegal for GMRS).

Help us out a bit so we can best guide you.

Then I stand corrected.

You want to hook a maxtrac up to a T5600 Console.

Check.

I'll move this over to infrastructure.

Jose,

The T5600 is either a Tone or DC control remote depending on how it's programmed and whether or not a DC daughtercard is installed in it.

It is not designed for Local Control operation (which is what I think you're wanting to do - control a MaxTrac directly from it).

The easiest solution would be to obtain either a Tone or DC Remote Interface (depending on what format your T5600 is in - and if it's DC, yank the daughtercard out and reprogram the remote as Tone because DC is less than desirable and Tone offers more functionality), and wire that interface to your MaxTrac radio. Then you can plug the T5600 into the Tone Remote Interface, and all will be well.

It works like this (assuming a tone control configuration which is what 99% of those T5600's were sold as):

[T5600] <-----tone signalling+audio---> [Tone Rem. Intfc.] <----logic keying + audio--->[MaxTrac]

So essentially the Tone Remote Interface translates the audio + control tones that the T5600 generates into usable logic signals that can be interfaced to the MaxTrac.

Keep in mind these things generally support the most simplest of functions: key radio, send transmit audio to radio and receive audio from radio and send to Tone Remote (e.g. T5600).

Advanced functions such as being able to put the radio in monitor and change channels will require you to have an advanced tone remote interface, and since the MaxTrac radio does not support channel steering from the accessory connector (that I've found), you're out of luck.

If you can get your hands on one, the Motorola DeskTrac consolettes were available with built-in tone control. I have 1 each VHF and UHF DeskTracs connected to a Centracom CEB at work, and they're great - full channel control, monitor, etc.

Hope this helps. For what it's worth, Gai-Tronics, Motorola, CPI, Vega, and a few others manufacture Tone Remote Interfaces.

Jose,

Fine - but if you don't have a Tone Remote Interface, you're not going to get very far.

The T5600 does not have the capability to control a mobile radio directly. You MUST have a Tone Remote Interface (or DC Remote Interface if you have one of those rare DC T5600's) between the radio and the remote.
