Systems Saber UHF: Error Tone on TX

Post by kc7gr »

Fellow batters,

I have an odd one on the bench at the moment, and was hoping for some insights. It's a UHF Systems Saber, version CON-6, programmed with all conventional (hamateur) frequencies. Receive is fine, but upon trying to transmit all I get is a brief flash of the TX light followed by a continuous (as long as the PTT is held down) 'out-of-range' tone.

It's as if the thing is treating conventional modes like trunked. No system, you get OOR tone.

So: Anything in particular I should check for in the codeplug? Or could this be an actual hardware issue?

Thanks much.

Sounds like the codeplug is set for a different split than the hardware is for.

Have you checked the modules to see which UHF split the radio hardware is for?

Good guesses, yes, but in this case the problem has turned out to be... a bad synthesizer/VCO module. It's going unlocked on transmit for reasons that remain unknown to me.

Thanks to all who replied.
