MX300 series spanner tool

Post by kc7gr »

Fellow tweakers,

Back in the days of the MX300 series, there existed a specific type of spanner-bit tool that was usable on both the preselector nuts and the ferrule that held the RF jack (just above the universal connector) in place. This tool consisted of a reversible spanner bit that fit into a blue 5/16" drive handle.

I'm trying to locate at least one of these tools. Definitely NLA from Motorola, though I found out that the original part number was ST-1180.

At the very least, I need to locate a similar drive handle. There's tons of 1/4" drives available, but the 5/16" inchers seem to be rare at best.

Anyone help with this? Let me know.

Thanks much.

Hi Bruce, long time no talk. Try Mot P/N 6605300D01 (I don't have MOL so I don't know if it's still available). Also, Motorola carried a blue handled screw driver with a reversible head (common or phillips) that had either a 5/16 or 3/8 drive. Unfortunately I don't have a tool catalog for the p/n.

Go to Home Depot and find a common "Buck" electrician's screwdriver. Four bits into a double-ended hex tube; one side is 1/4" and I believe other end is 5/16". Usually sell for about $2-3.
