Digitac and Status tone Getting Through

Post by firemedic »

We've got a digitac interfaced into a quantar via the MRTI port. When the voter dekeys, each link passes in the 2175 status tone and goes out the repeater. The digitac does not have the tone keying cards, and we pulled the PTT off of the voted line indicator. TX Audio is comming off of the line 2 port and into the MRTI TX Audio on the quantar. Any ideas on how to eliminate the beeps? If not possible not a real big deal but I don't like hearing the beeps as each site dekeys. Thanks!!

Make sure the DIGITAC is programmed with "Notch TX Audio?" set to "Y".

My only other thought is that you're pulling the audio off of the wrong place. You should be using LINE 5 if possible to pull the audio and route it back into the repeater.

Why don't you have a Tone Keying/Tone Priority module in that unit? The configuration you're running, while it may work, is technically not the correct one for the equipment you have.

Are you sure that you have a DIGITAC and not a SpectraTAC? Physically describe what you have...

I'll check the settings for the TX Audio, I'm pretty sure I forgot to set that. I'll try and switch it over to the line 5 out, is there audio present there when the tone key card isn't present? Unit was surplus and didn't come with the tone keying module. Trying to get this running to replace a failing GE voter from 1984. I had a hard enough time fininding a service manual for it let alone the key module. Defintly a Digitac with 8 input cards. Black chasis about the size of a quantar, 2 input cards, 1 card with the diagnostics port, and 2 centronics 50's off the back. I've got 8 more units just like it as spares and expansion options. I believe the units were pulled from a console application at the white house communicatons agency. The interfacing isn't pretty, but right now it's temporary for about a year or so. Just gotta get it to last until we can get a new unit or a better way figured out.

OK, yeah definitely a DIGITAC... Just really odd to see one without a Tone Priority Module/Tone Keying, but I suppose they CAN be ordered that way (still a current product FYI).

I can't answer the question about LINE 5 audio being present or not when the TKM/TPM isn't installed. It's gonna be hit/miss. I also think the TX Notch is programmed via the 2nd Diagnostic port on the TKM/TPM.... Which if you don't have, you can't set. That's probably why you're hearing the un-notched status tone beeps, because the notching MAY be performed in the module you don't have...

...but once again, I've never worked with one in that configuration, and it's too late in the evening for me to haul my butt to where my DIGITAC is and check... Let me know how you make out, and if you need more help / second opinion on stuff, let me know. I can experiment with mine.

Ok, can't set the tx audio notch option without the cards, everyone has the tx control board but not the tx audio boards to go with them. The audio board is NLA from motorola direct. Urgh. Installed a vega 330 notch filter, and the beeps are gone. Just gotta do a little hang time circuit on the ptt line and all is well again with the repeater. Not the pretiest interface but it does analog vote like I need and will do internal digital repeat when we need secured traffic. Thanks for the help. Makes it great to know this resource is here. The locals here aren't real familiar with voting other than the JPS products.

Keith,

Should I come across the cards you need, I'll let you know. I find it difficult to believe that any DIGITAC parts are NLA from Motorola considering it's still a current, marketed product... Perhaps there's been a revision or something.

At any rate, glad you got it working to your satisfaction.
