Add MDC to MTS-2000

Post by ke5fgc »

I have an MTS-2000 UHF that was previously used for Smartnet Trunking, now i just use the radio for conventional and would like to add MDC capabilities to the radio. How do i go about doing this? Would i have to buy MDC for the radio, or could i take the codeplug from another radio and put it in mine?

I am using CPS R02.02.00 to program the radio.

thanks

it will need to go to motorola to be flashed for it. you would probablly be cheaper buying a different radio that has what you want already in it.

If and ONLY IF the radios' controller version is lower than 5.42, you could theoretically use that software we don't talk about and force a codeplug with the features you need into the radio, retune/align, and the rest is history. If it's anything higher than 5.41 using that forbidden software WILL turn your MTS into a paperweight.

Last I checked a legit flash would run you about 300 bucks for stat-alert, good luck finding a shop that will get it done, unless you are a VIP customer they don't like to flash upgrade individual radios.

My radio is toolproof so the software that you mentioned will not work on the radio. I have read people putting other codeplugs into the radio, would that work?

I have an MTS2000 that does not do MDC. Yes, it does suck, but it would not be worth it to make my current MTS do MDC. It would be much cheaper and wiser (as others have mentioned) to sell the radio you have, and get a radio that already does MDC out of the box (ex. a 16CH GP300 or HT1000/MT2000).

Bearcom and Houston 2-Way are the only two shops in the area that can do flash upgrades on Flashport-capable radios. Good luck.

What band are you working in, and how many channels do you need?

Any Motorola dealer can do flash upgrades. Now, finding a dealer that will do the upgrades is another story entirely (one you can read in the knowledgebase, incidentally)

The radio is UHF. I have already bought the programming software, so i do not need it programmed. At the moment it has 80 conventional freqs in it.
