ENCRYPTED ASTRO SABER?

Post by N4KVE »

Hello. Recently I have obtained some UHF AS1's from ebay at a real good price. 2 of them beep 6 times if I turn the encrypton switch. I assume this means that these radios have an encryption board, but lost the key because the battery was disconnected for a while. Can someone confirm this? Also has anyone else here gotten any AS1's from Gilco in Pa? If so what type of board was in them? Thanks GARY N4KVE

I believe 6 beeps means keyfail. Then yes, it has lost it keys.

You can open them up and read off the module numbers to find out what encryption they are.

I bought one from them quite a while ago. It looks like their current offerings are from the same batch. Mine has DES-OFB and DES-XL in it. It doesn't have multikey but works okay for P25 and Securenet.
