XTL1500 and Windows Vista

I have been programming my XTL1500 radios for my department using a laptop with Windows XP and had no problems. However, my computer dies and I had to buy a new one. The new computer uses Windows Vista (home edition basic). I loaded the program with no problem, but when I connect to the radio it tries to install the driver. It appears the driver is loading, but then a message appears that says the driver could not be found and will not operate after that. I've tried removing and reloading the software and searching for an updated driver with no luck.

Has anyone got the xtl1500 to program with the Vista software? My programming software version is 9.01.02

Welcome to vista.
Solution is easy.
Find an XP disk
insert disk and reboot computer
when it flashes up boot from cd/dvd click yes
install XP

Thats what I did on my new HP laptop.
It came with vista buisness and I gave up on it in a day and installed XP.
I can always turn it back to vista once the first service pack comes out.

I had the same issues with PRO series and XTS3000 series CPS. After crashing multiple times and the lack of the help function I did the same thing as bruce..... Put XP back on it. Seriously, save yourself the headache's and just go back to XP.

problems like this are not significant to just motorola programs, it's happening with most programs and hardware just like it did back when xp came out. the bugs will eventually be worked out, i've had nothing but problems with my vista machine so i havn't upgraded any of the others yet. vista works awesome if you leave it alone and don't install anything on it and just use it on the internet or for email.

I find the browser takes forever and is a real problem.
I think I'll wait for the first service pack befor playing around any more.
It's hard enough to find a laptop with a comm port and now we have to deal with vista.

i'm all about finding a decent used laptop, most people will get rid of them thinking they are screwed up but the fact is it runs so bad or locks up because of all the crap they put on it. i'll just put a fresh install of windows on it and you're usually good to go and it works like new.

I found the solution to this problem a few years ago, and thought everyone knew about it...... Serial Adapter

I've been using that adapter to program crestron A/V control systems because it is the only product the manufacturer recommends. It is an actually serial port, not one of these USB phantom serial ports and I have never had any problems with it, other than losing the cable once

I use an EasySync US232R-100, and it's absolutely bulletproof under everythng I've tried it with under XP, from Motorola CPS to my AVR-ISP microcontroller programmer. It's also the recommended device for Clipsal C-Bus building automation systems.

Regular CPS seems ok with the adaptors but the quantar/quantro windows software seems to cause the biggest problems where the bases wont talk to the PC.
It's wierd because I have some sites that work ok except maybe one base and some sites where i cant talk to any machines.
All the stations are intellrepeaters and the same firmware.
I find the only solution is a real com port on a laptop with hardly anything on it.

Have you used it on Astro Spectra and/or XTS3k CPSs? I might try to pick one up (I can only find the UK manufacturer and Australian distributor) and see how well it works on a Macbook Pro under BootCamp and a Virtual Machine.

i use the BAFO BF-810 USB/serial adapter with a macbook. i boot windows via bootcamp and i've never had a problem with it...i've programmed a lot with it (motorola, icom, vertex, kenwood...even minitor pagers) there have been a couple things i couldn't program, but not many
i did try running windows through parallels desktop and it didn't work. windows didn't seem to have complete control over the USB port, although that was a while ago and i think there have been a lot of improvements on parallels since i tried it last.

Keep in mind that even if support improves, Windows under Parallels is still at the mercy of Mac OS when accessing system hardware. It is not guaranteed real time access to the USB interface, so you might get timeouts and other weird behaviour when the machine is busy that can cause problems with your radio.

I assume you're trying to use the USB programming cable? If so, drivers are required in order for the radio to communicate with the computer. Motorola simply hasn't provided Vista compatible drivers yet for the radios.

If you have a serial ribless cable, it might work for you, as drivers aren't required in that case.

Otherwise, you might be out of luck regardless, as the 9.01.02 readme file doesn't even mention Vista as a supported OS. We can only hope Motorola comes out with a compatible version soon...but I'm not holding my breath.

right...trying to use parallels was more of a convenience than anything else. i use Mac OS 10 for pretty much everything except programming radios, so i find myself having to switch back and forth pretty often to access reference material or something. it gets really annoying after a while.
