Search is FUBAR

Post by kb0nly »

Has anyone else noticed that the search has been broken since the upgrade? No matter what you search for it just says that it was ignored because no results were found.

Here is what happens when i try a search, for example i just used the word spectra.

Information
The following words in your search query were ignored: spectra.
You must specify at least one word to search for. Each word must consist of at least 3 characters and must not contain more than 14 characters excluding wildcards.

He's right. "Search" for general terms doesn't work,
ever if you put a + in front of the word. Works fine
for finding authors.

Hmm.. That doesn't work either on this end. I tried putting the + in front of it and various other combinations that i could think of and always get the same thing.

I have tried other words too of course, like Syntor, Maxtrac, Maratrac, MT1000, etc... They all come back with the same response. Something is broken in this here upgrade!

Glad i didnt put this version on the clubs board yet, let you guys work the bugs out.

Yes, example is search for "astro saber firmware" I get "ignored astro. saber" But I get any post with firmware in in. I hate the new search.

Honestly - I'm not sure on this one. I know that the board relies upon indexing the posts and such, however, I do not know how they have "redone" search.

I'll add it to my growing list of things to investigate. Not trying to be sarcastic, but jut a lot still needs to be done.

Yeah im sure, thats why im not complaining, just wanted to bring it up and see if it was just on my end or what. I'm sure with this new version of phpbb there will be some things to run over a few times and get it right.

I'd put my money on this being the problem. Looks like phpBB3 has a feature to generate a list of 'common words' and exclude them from searches. The more "common" radios (e.g., Spectra) fail on search, but less-popular ones (e.g., Visar ) do allow searching. This is a feature that can be disabled, as described. Hope this helps!

Is there a 'public' list of problems? I'd imagine I speak for others when I say that we wouldn't mind helping research some of these problems in our spare time.

What's not working? Be descriptive... it works fine for me, running Firefox 2 on Win Server 2k3.

I know what's not working, he doesn't need to be more descriptive. I haven't really had time to look in to it. I'm hoping with the board upgrade that it'll get fixed, but I need to do more research.

Posts on the support forums get me no where, and I've gone through a couple of suggestions from folks, and there hasn't been an improvement.

Ok. I'm glad i don't have to work with this version yet!

I tried searching for System Saber RSS to find an old post that described some of the features you can set on the radio and it comes back and says that it ignored System and Saber and only searched for RSS...

Super annoying!

I did a combo/two-section search this morning and
got back something like 1,500 hits. I didn't look at
any of them because I was checking to see if it
worked before I told someone else to search for
the stuff he needed.
