The part number used to be 5105385Y19 but these are NLA. There is a new part number, 5185633C42, but when I had my company try to order some they were told they were not available yet. They did provide another part number, but it is at the office. If you pm me, so I don't forget, I will send it to you on Monday.

SUBJECT: Service of XTS3000 or XTS3500 Portables - Display Driver

MODELS / SYSTEMS AFFECTED: XTS3000 and XTS3500, Model II and III radio's ONLY using host firmware earlier than listed below.
Radio Models Firmware Version
XTS3500 R01.50.00
3.1 XTS3000 R07.23.00 (Note this is IMBE)
Astro Digital (VSELP) R03.40.00
5.1 XTS3000 R06.22.00 (Note this is P25)

Issue:
LCD module part number 5105385Y19 has become obsolete. The new part number for the LCD module is 5185633C42.
However, this new LCD module will require firmware upgrade to provide the appropriate drivers needed. There will be a software order form included with each new LCD purchased.

RESOLUTION:
Procedure to identify firmware version and upgrade firmware:
1. Use RSS or CPS to read the radio. The firmware version is present under the Radio Information tab.
Note: If an archive is used the firmware will indicate “NA”. You must read the radio and have it still connected to view the Firmware Version in the Radio Information tab.

Or

2. The firmware version of the radio can be identified by setting the radio in test mode.

a. To set XTS3000 radios in the test mode, refer to “RF Test Mode” under Chapter 4 of the Astro Digital XTS3000 Basic Service Manual (68P81083C85-O). Follow steps 1 and 2 to identify firmware version.

b. To set XTS3500 radios in test mode, refer to “Display Radio Test Mode” under Chapter 4 of the XTS3500 Basic Service Manual (68P81089C80). Follow the steps to identify the firmware version.

3. If the radio has firmware version prior to the cone listed above, then the firmware needs to be upgraded if replacing the display with part number 5185633C42. In order to submit for this firmware upgrade you must have your AAD Order
Number and fill in the form that arrives with the pat to obtain this upgrade.
Note: This is not to ADD options only REFRESH of drivers and Host/DSP firmware.

The upgrades will also need to be done with the substitute part number which I don't have now. I will stop by the office today and then post. I am also being told that the forms will need to be filled out prior to the purchase. That may or may not be true but it does make sense. Why would you want to order the module and then have to wait for the upgrade in order to use it? I thought the form was part of the bulletin that was posted? I have a copy of the form and can post/email if needed.

Ok, this is the info I received from my purchaser and Motorola. The new part number for the 3000 and 3500 is 5185633C71. This was taken from FMR 2069-1 and 2070-1 stating the old part number is NLA.

When I tried to order this part number we were told it is not yet available so they said 5185633C42 is a substitute. We ordered and received these but still need the firmware upgrade. The form for the upgrades is attached to FSB10047. It can be filled out in Adobe, if your program allows, or in excel.

I read my emails again from my purchaser and see that we already received the displays. My previous post about filling out the form before you order may not be correct. That's something you could discuss with Moto when you make the purchase I guess.

I'm sending up the form today and hope to have the displays in a couple of weeks. I will post my findings. The description of the substitute displays is

DISP,LCD...5V,RECT,44.8X32.6,BLUE

The only difference, I believe, is that it has a blue background instead of the green??

Hope this helps a little and didn't make the confusion any worse.

What's the difference between the "3.1" and "5.1", and how can you tell?

I too have been trying to figure this out. As near as I can figure the 3.1 and 5.1 refers to the type/version of trunking firmware or software.

I also beleive the VSELP and IMBE to be forms of encryption??? Don't really know much about them but I think VSELP is the oldest of the two. IMBE is in common use now but there seems to be a newer version referred to as AMBE.

Hope someone else can shed more light on your answer.

I received my displays yesterday and installed one today. Everything seemed to go painlessly. I would recommend that you turn off all unecessary programs. My screen saver cam on and when I tried to return to the desktop the upgrade seemed to freeze. I waited for about 10 minutes and then switched to the upgrade. It told me it completed. Other than that the upgrade went pretty smoothly.

If you order the new displays they will send a USB or Parallel key and the programming file. They also send you a copy of the current version of CPS and Tuner software. At first I thought this would be a good way to get a cheap upgrade to your software but I would bet you need to have a valid license before they will send it.

If anyone has any questions please let me know. The new part number is 5185633C42. I installed the display before doing the upgrade. Naturally it didn't work. It is probably best to do the upgrade first then install the display. I tried it this way to see if it would make any difference.

I have a XTS3000 that has developed bad LCD pixels in the wrong places. I have read in this thread about the need for a firmware upgrade and my radio will definitely require one to support the new display.

In order to flash the radio for the new display, is a smartrib required? This may affect whether I decide to do it myself. I understand about having to fill out forms to get the flash refresh from Motorola, etc, and have a MOL account and CPS license.

Thanks.

Yes, you will need the smartrib in order to do the upgrade.
