JT1000 display missing lines with high humidity

Post by Pat »

Kind of a strange problem I guess, but the last few weeks the display on my JT1000 has been having the missing lines/pixels problem when the humidity gets up to roughly 60% or higher. RIght now the humidity in the area is around 80% and my display is pretty much unreadable. It's missing several vertical lines and a couple of horizontal lines.

I first had the problem towards the end of June when I had the radio with me in northern Wisconsin during a humid spell. At that time it was only missing a couple of horizontal lines. When the weather front passed through the area and the humidity dropped the display returned to normal.

Could this possibly be caused by the orange gasket letting moisture into the radio maybe by not being seated properly or just being worn out? This is the third front case I've had on the radio and I'm hoping I'm not going to have to buy another one since the SRN covering the missing display lines problem has expired.

Anyone have any ideas?

I doubt ther seal would keep out ambient humidity.
You may have a bad chip on the controller.
Or else it is the display.
You sort of need to swap over the cover in a high humidity enviroment and see if the same fault occurs.
Your controller board may be failing although most display problems I've had have been displays.

If you've had to replace the front *3* times, then it could be a bigger problem than humidity.

We had 600 MTX9000's on lease, when it was time to turn them in 587 of them had bad displays. About 100 or so had been replaced at least once. The new ones may be better, who knows? Get used to changing them.

Thanks, I guess I'll try getting a new front cover and see how it goes. It kind of irks me since the JT1000 has hardly seen any use since I had the last cover replaced. And I just put new stickers on the case thinking that after a year or so the display problem wouldn't come back. Argh.

When the lines started disappearing the first time I thought maybe the humidity was the problem so I put it in the refridgerator for a little while which seemed to help the problem. Maybe there's a bad connection or something on the board?

I know that replacing the controller isn't very feasable since the cost of the controller almost equals the cost of the entire radio, right?

I guess maybe it's time to upgrade to either an HT1550 or XTS5000...
