Question About interchanging Spectra Remote Heads

Post by firefighter105 »

Hello all.

I currently am using a A4 remote mount head, 110 watt trunk mount system. I was reading that the 110 watt version can use two remote heads. In this respect, My A4 is out for repairs, can i use another head such as an A5/A7 for temporary use until I get my A4 repaired, in which the A5/A7 head would be used in the back of my explorer as a Command radio.

I can't program the Spectra as of yet due to still trying to get my RSS/CPS bought, so is it possible to use the other style head or would some programming having to be done to allow this.

Please help.

The high power is capable of using two heads at once. I believe this is what you are refering to. Both heads have to be A9 heads and the second head is specifically made as a rear control head only. It is electronically different than a front A9 head.

You can not use a A5 or A7 head as a temp head unless you want to do a lot of bit banging. Play it safe. Wait for your A4 to come back fixed. It sounds like this will save you a lot of stress and headache.

Good luck.

So two A4 Heads would not work on the system instead of two A9 heads.

The A4, A5 & A7 heads can do 'groups' called Zones. Most later Spectras have the Zone capability, that is part of the radio not the head. The A4 heads allready have the Zone buttons. The A5 or A7 head can have a button asigned for selecting Zones.

All this is programmed in the RSS.

Ahhh okies. See i wasn't sure of this. I know quite a fair amount i like to think about kenwoods, but motorolas are new for me. I am trying to take this all in. But i think i need to upgrade my spectra so i can use A9 heads and get used to the spectra programming.

Thanks Will
