I have a UHF XTS3000 that somehow the battery is stuck on. It came to me this way and attempts to remove the battery have failed and I don't want to damage the radio trying to get it off. It's also short-circuiting something because when I try to charge the radio it trips the breaker in the charger.
Any ideas how to get this battery off without damaging anything?

Re: Stuck XTS3000 Battery
Sounds like one of several things may have happened, either someone has spilled something sticky in it, or something shorted and either the contacts welded together, the housings melted together, or heat warped it enough to get it stuck.
If it's something spilled in it you might be able to get some ammonia in there to loosen it up... of course you'd then need to clean it out real good. If it's welded or melted.. all I can think of is cut the battery apart and see if you can get it out in pieces.

try and remove the top cover on the radiovery carefully at the bottom and remove the boards and the battery contacts.
From there a bit of brute force should solve the problem.

Re: Stuck XTS3000 Battery
One of our fireman did this to a brand new XTS5000. The radio was brought in with pry marks all over it. I finally ground out the rear of the battery with a dremel tool.
I have no idea how they jammed it since I can not duplicate the problem with another battery.
This gave me a brand new Impress battery to take apart. There is a lot of electronics in the smart battery.

Re: Stuck XTS3000 Battery
I have had similar problems with XTS batteries when they just
refuse to unlatch with finger pressure on the bottom latch. I've
had success using the handle end of a small screwdriver on the
latch. It seems that a finger can't push the latch in as far as
a hard round screwdriver handle can.

Re: Stuck XTS3000 Battery
The Multiplier batteries we have can not be removed until you squeeze the battery towards the radio, (compress the whole radio with one hand basically) prior to pushing in the button.

Re: Stuck XTS3000 Battery
Thanks for the tips guys.
I finally got it to come off by prying it with a screwdriver and releasing the latch with another screwdriver. OEM only from now on...
