I just picked up a Motorola MTX 838. The model number on the back is for a MTX9000 and It also says MTX9000. I know the MTX838 is an export version. Is this normal, or do I have a radio that was put together by someone.
Thanks

Re: Motorola mtx838
Well - if the Motorola sticker on the back indicates a MTX9000, and the sticker on the front of the case says MTX9000, then what leads you to think it's an MTX838?
If the RSS says it's an MTX838, than it sounds like it *could* be a parts radio.

Is it a 900 MHz radio which the MTX9000 is ? Don't believe the MTX838 came in 900. Radio have a display ? If you're familiar with taking the radio apart the part # off the controller would help run down what you have (or had if it's a hack).

Re: Motorola mtx838
It appears to be a 900 mhz. I popped the case off and it doesn't look like the actual radio has been opened and then, duh, I looked at the antennas and they are 900 mhz. So I guess it's a mtx9000
Thanks for your help.

Re: Motorola mtx838
I've seen 3 radios MTX9000's from Ontario that all had MTX838 stickers on the case, but were MTX9000's in every other way, maybe its the export radio thing, but I guess you see more lot MTX838's then 8/9000's in Canada...maybe you have a Canadian radio? who knows...
These radios looked like they were never opened either, all read as MTX9000's and had 9000 stickers on the back of the radio, but had MTX838 on the front..
