Has anyone any idea what might cause a multi channel radio to stay on channel one
all the time regardless of what the front panel displays? Have 8 channels set up in
the radio. You can step the front panel through all the channels. If I go back and
read the radio, it shows the correct channel information in each of the personalities.
Another issue is if I program any of the front panel buttons for scan, it just beeps
when the scan button is pushed. Have the scan list set up. It is still there if I
go back and read the radio.
Monitor button works. Power setting button works. Home channel button works.
Just that the radio will not move the RF to any other channel other than one. Radio
model is M01RHL9PW4AN.
Never seen one do this before.

Just a guess, but:
After programming 8 conventional "personalities" and
after programming a zone with 8 alpha-numeric tags,
you have to point each of the tags to the correct "personality."
When you expand a zone, it defaults to "Personality 1". If you don't correct this, all the slots in the zone will point to the same channel, regardless of what the alpha says.

And for the scan, you have to reference the scan list in each personality.

I will have to go back and look at the personality selection in the zone list. You may
have hit the old nail on the head. The way Motorola does programming between all
the different family of radios, you almost need to be a computer to remember all
the different ways each family needs to be done. I will look at that in the morning.
The scan list is fine. Made sure each personality looked at the same scan list.
By the way for what it is worth, I have found that the Polaris II RIB doesn't like to
write to the MCS2000. In playing around today, I think the problem is the battery
voltage they try to run the RIB at. If you take an external supply and bump the
voltage up to about 3 volts, it will work just fine. Kind of a fluke with the way
Polaris designed the RIB. They use a 2 cell AA type NiCad battery. Thinking of
trying a 3 cell one in its place to get the extra voltage. Can't use a full size AA
so looks like a 2/3 AA with 3 cells will slide in there just fine. A good battery
on the Polaris II will settle out at about 2.6 volts. Under load it will go down
just a tad more. Not enough to make everyone happy all the time.

You are correct that, over the long haul, the metaphors employed by various Motorola programming applications reflect that the various writers have never met one another. However, the MCS2000 metaphor, a straight application of the venerable "MTSX" metaphor, was one with which we had all become pretty comfortable -- until M decided to change it for the XTS line. Oh, well.
