Motorola Smart Zone II programming
I am a long time conventional radio programmer. I have put and maintain several repeaters (rick, crossband, and motorola models). Several counties near me are starting to make the switch to P25 and I have been doing some research because I did not understand the basis behind it. I now have a basic idea of what the system is and how it works. My question now is related to the programming of a XTS 3000 APCO P25 radio using windows based CPS. What frequency information do I need as far programming. The radio reference site lists information such as: a base frequency, the channel spacing, and then the off set for each base frequency. It also lists a Sysid. What other info do I need. Does anyone have any screen shots of the CPS with the different screens and menus for APCO P25 and Motorola Smartnet Type II trunking. Also do I need a flask key. I have been reading up on this but do not totally understand it. Any help is apprecieated.

You dont need frequencies what you need is a system key ( an encrtpted file with the id).
If it is P25 contact your local system administrator.
you also need to look at your flashcode and see if it 9600 trunking or just 3600.
This is assuming that your neighbours have gone P25 trunking.
Will be much easier with a scanner.

Re: Motorola Smart Zone II programming
Just to expand a bit on what I think the original question may have included:
With SmartNet trunking (including the SmartZone variant), the only frequencies that are programmed into subscriber equipment are the control channel frequencies: there will be a max of 4 control channels for SmartNet systems (or 8, if AMSS is employed) and as many as 28 control channels for full-blown SmartZone systems.
The radio acquires frequency information for voice channels "on the fly" via the data stream broadcast over the control channel.
As noted, the programming software will not allow any changes to critical trunked parameters unless you have saved on your hard drive the encrypted "system key" file that corresponds to the SysID for which you are trying to program.
In addition, even with a System Key, you cannot take advantage of SmartZone zone switching, and in a P-25 system, you cannot even monitor, unless the radio successfully "affiliates" with the system controller, which means that you are authorized on the system.

Re: Motorola Smart Zone II programming
If you use full spectrum scan you dont need to add any frequencies as the radio will look for a valid control channel and system id and work it out for itself.

You can program 32 control channels when set up as SmartZone.RKG wrote:...as many as 28 control channels for full-blown SmartZone systems.

and in a P-25 system, you cannot even monitor
You certainly can take advantage of SmartZone zome switching without the need to affiliate.
You certainly can monitor a P-25 system without the need to affiliate, I'm doing it right now.
