You can buy the parts (case, display, etc) in order to physically look an feel like a model 1.5. I don't know if the MT1500 is marketed or "built" to be a 1.5 or digital, so if you were to ask Motorola about the upgrade - they'd look at your cross eyed.
However, the MT1500 has the same exact board as an XTS2500, if you have an 800mhz one, it's actually capable of 700/800 operation, fully digital, the whole 9 yards. However, the firmware / codeplug restricts the radios operation to 800mhz only, and you'll need to now somehow figure out how to tell the radio it now has a display.
If you take a display and hook it up to a MT1500 - you will be able to see scan, monitor, and a couple other indicators, as well as putting the radio in to self test will reveal the model and other information on the screen, just like with the older XTS series radios.
So while it's possible to put the hardware together, you'll need some software voodoo which Motorola will probably simply tell you...
Buy an XTS1500 (which you already in theory own).

I'll double check later, but I don't believe that IMBE is an option on a MT1500, hense, why you'd need to make the jump to XTS1500.n3obl wrote:They do make a MT1500 1.5 model.

Anyone have the info handy?

[edit - that's not to say the radio hardware/software isn't physically capable.....]

Re: MT1500 1 to 1.5 upgrade
I enquired about making a model 1 XTS2500 into a 1.5 and was told that whilst the hardware supported it there is no display driver in the firmware.
I never tried swapping a case to see what would happen.

Whoever told you that is smoking crack.Bruce1807 wrote:I enquired about making a model 1 XTS2500 into a 1.5 and was told that whilst the hardware supported it there is no display driver in the firmware.
Think about it... XTS2500 firmware is used across ALL XTS2500 models. Model 1, 1.5, 2 and 3. Same firmware. Same CVN file they issue for XTS2500 upgrades.

I agree its the same firmware but how about the boot system or whatever the real embeded code is in.
I actually asked at the Orlando MTUG last year when the 1.5 was formally introduced as I wanted to migrate my 1 to 1.5's
I asked the guy that did the subscriber presentation and that was his answer.
