I have noticed over the past couple weeks that when I leave my XTS 3000 in my personal vehicle or in the truck at work that the screen becomes discolored. The XTS 3000 is 800 for the astro system but we also use VHF and my VHF is a HT 1250 and the 1250 does the same thing. It does not look like it is the actual display that is becomming discolored, but the clear protective lens over the display. Is this something that others are experiencing? The display looks very odd, almost like when you mix oil and water and you get all the swirly colors. It is not bad enough to make the display unreadable, but just bothersome. Our MTS 2000 front and top display radios did not do this when we used them. I am sure this is the result of leaving the radio in a hot vehicle.....outside temps have been near 100 several days.........but I would think this would be within the normal operating range of a commercial radio; and we did this with our old radios with no problems.
Anyone else experience this? Just wondering if this is something I need to send back to the dealer that can be fixed. The dealer says they are supposed to do this when they get hot..........somehow I don't think that is correct.
Thanks!

Yes this is in all likelihood due to the heat. If you have near 100 outside temps, you will have inside temps of 150+ in your car if you're parked in the sun.

Is it only temporary? If so, it's a normal artifact that a lot of LCDs display when they get really hot. A hot car can get more than hot enough to kill people, so I imagine it wouldn't be within the intended operating range of a radio either.JustinMoon205 wrote:Anyone else experience this? I wouldn't recommend leaving an XTS 3000 or ASTRO Saber in a hot car anyway. When it's really hot, they'll sometimes behave really strangely until they cool down (secure hardware errors, VCO won't lock, etc.)

I am unsure if it is permenant or not. I feel like it subsides after the radio cools off......but it looks like not completely. On the HT1250 it is completely gone after the radio cools off. But now it appears that on the XTS 3000 that it is there at least a little bit anyway. Seems it diminishes, but not entirely I guess. I still don't think it is the actual dispaly itself, but more the protective plastic lens or cover over the display.

The weird colours come from the actual display. I've seen it before.

What's really cool is looking at a heated LCD display through polarized sunglasses

Justin:
Seriously - once the radio has cooled off to the point where there is only a "residual" discoloration, put the radio in a refridgerator (NOT FREEZER) for a few hours and see if that gets rid of the remaining discoloration.
