Mystery antenna connector - SMA on steroids? (pictures)

Post by chipjumper »

Can someone help me identify this type of connector - it looks like a reverse SMA on steroids. It is just a tad bigger than a SMA. This is a 900Mhz data radio for a Fluke logging device. Half of our units have true SMA connectors and the other half have this odd connector.

It looks somewhat similar (but smaller) than an SC connector.

It's doubtful, but could it be some proprietory job that Fluke uses?

Those are referred to as an SMA-RP (reverse polarity). Same connector, they just move the center pin to the other side. Common with 2.4gig stuff (access points, and the like)

There are also TNC-RP's out there, and I am sure others as well.

Along the same lines, are extension cables easy to find for those? I'd love to put a half decent external antenna on my access point but have been unable to find a local source.

My first reaction was that they were just "reverse SMA". Then I examined the threads. This is just a tad bigger in diameter than an SMA. I will try to go out in the production area tomorrow with a digital caliper to verify this. I brought along a SMA antenna last time and this connector definately looked a little bit bigger.

If it were not for the smaller size and the reverse pin config in the first pic I would have thought I was looking at an N connector.

Is it a RP-TNC? That would be the same size as a BNC, except threaded. If it's not that large, could it be a mini-UHF connector?

Its doesn't have the little shark teeth on the end like a mini-UHF.

Its too small to be a TNC too. I really need to get out there with a caliper and measure this up.
