Saber III no power

Post by Richard Collier »

I have a 2 saber III radios that will not power up. Batteries tested good and full charge on them both. Contacts on radio and bats are clean. Is there a fuse in the radio and if so where is it. Need help please. Any picture of the location of fuse would be great.

Richard,

Pull the chassis out of the case. Look at the area around
the bottom of the chassis and you should see a small opening
with a small green fuse showing through the opening. You
should be able to check the fuse with an ohmmeter without
removing anything else.

First, though, try burnishing the spring contacts on the bottom
of the chassis; that could be the problem.

The most common problems are a loose volume control that broke loose the connections on the flex or a bad flex circuit. Sometimes a loose volume control will move around enough so that the power switch will hit the frame and blow the fuse. On the flex connector at the radio pin 11 and 4 are the switch. With it on there should be power both places.

It is hard to work on the radios without a test jig but you should be able to check for continuity.
