Aftermarket RIB question: mod to FLASH RIB is possible?

Post by MotoFAN »

Hi all!

I want to know, it is possible to modify aftermarket RIBs (which can be found at eBay.com for approx $30) to Flash RIB for JEDI mobile?

This is what I calling Flash RIB:

Anybody tried this mod on aftermarket RIB?

P.S.
As I know, aftermarket RIBs very similar (identical?) by schematics to genuine RLN4008, but I am not sure.
I am biggest fan of XTS2500 and ASTRO Digital Saber.

Um, that's not a Smart(flash)RIB. That is the schematic of the standard Moto RIB, or at least very, very close to it. If you have the level of expertise to mod something like you are talking about, you'd be better served to simply build your own RIB. Its really not that complicated. The schematics can be found HERE, and the parts list that goes with the schematic can be found HERE. This is the schematic of the original Motorola RIB. I've built one, using a lot of junkbox parts, and a few new ones. I have about $12.00 US in mine, and it hasn't balked at programming anything I've thrown at it yet. I've even programmed several Syntor X9000 radios with it, and they can be among the most finicky to program. I would suggest not substituting parts. Only use original part numbers. If you need schematics for programming cables, they can be found HERE.

Happy programming!

I was always under the impression the SmartRIB has some proprietary code on a chip within it.

The European Flash RIB (aka UniRIB) and the Smart RIB are two different things.

The Flash RIB is a variation on a standard RIB that is used to perform upgrades on the European models in the Jedi series. They are really not seen or used with the North American radios. The schematic above is correctly identified as a European Flash RIB.

Andreas can probably speak with a little more detail and authority on the subject. (In fact, if I were a betting man, I would guess that the image above may well have come from his site.)

The Smart RIB used in the US for FlashPort upgrades is, as has been pointed out, an entirely different beast.

I need in RLN4008-to-MDRLN4008BSP01 modification info or MDRLN4008BSP01 schematics.

If this is official Motorola mod, such documenation must exist.

May be anybody have it?

P.S.
Andreas's Flash RIB a little different from RLN4008 (for e.g. have additional 7812 stabilizer for +12V voltage for flashing). I suppose that official Motorola mod must be more simple (without addition 7812).
