Spectra DEK

Post by mg3610 »

I have a 110 Watt Spectra A9 head radio and am considering getting a DEk unit off ebay. I am not using a siren or radio rebroadcast. What I am wondering is what can a DEk do? What are the options available for the buttons? Is device used mostly for MDC status messaging or can I program the buttons to do standard radio functions, MDC calls, direct channel entry etc?

Thanks

What can DEK buttons be programmed for, you ask? OK, here goes:

blank (obvious)
airhorn
zone x (where "x" refers to a particular zone)
zone up
zone down
yelp
wail
status x (where "x" refers to a particular MDC status message)
ST (?)
search (not sure, I think its something to do with trunking)
speaker a/b
site (trunking?)
siren
encryption
scan
repeater (?)
phone
page-a
pa (public address)
msg x (where "x" refers to a particular MDC message)
mpl (multiple PL)
mode x (where "x" refers to a particular mode)
manual (siren feature)
lock
hi-lo
horn/light
external radio-b
external radio-a
emergency
direct
call-b
call-a

In short, almost anything you can program to a control head button. Spectras are very versatile when it comes to button mapping.
