Hi Guys,
It's time to expand the service shop, but I've got a limited budget. I'm taking on a MotoTRBO radio project and I need a service monitor that is capable of testing those radios.
I'm looking at a used R2670A with the following options: CM-704,CM-705,CM-711, & CM-712.
They are asking 7500USD and that will come fully calibrated with the calibration data.
Any suggestions or things I should watch out for or suggestions.
The only reason for this service monitor is for testing the new MotoTRBO radios, so if I need any extra's please advise.
Thanks Guys!!
Jamie

Re: R2670A Service Monitor - Suggestions
The 2670A is several years old. The current version is the 2670B. The B models have a color LCD screen whereas the A models have a monochrome CRT.
The unit you are looking at is optioned for Securenet [12KBPS encryption] and VSELP Astro digital.
It is a nice unit but the fact that it is "digital" will probably be of little benefit for testing MotoTRBO versus any other [analog] service monitor, i.e. R2001 or R2600.
The 2670A can be upgraded to IMBE for about US $2K. You might check with GD and Aeroflex about any plans they have to directly support MotoTRBO.

Hi xmo,
I was looking through the service manual for the TRBO portable and mobiles and they both indicate under recommended test equipment that a technician use a R2670 or a Aeroflex 2975 or equivalent as a service monitor.
I'll do some checking in with GD and Aeroflex to see what they say.

As far as Aeroflex goes, I'll save you the trouble: MotoTRBO will be supported on the 3900, but not on the 2975.
This is my opinion, not Aeroflex's.
I WILL NOT give you proprietary information. I make too much money to jeopardize my job.
I AM NOT the Service department: You want official info, manuals, service info, parts, calibration, etc., contact Aeroflex directly, please.

Wowbagger, are you at liberty to give us a ballpark on a 3900 with whatever options are needed to handle trbo? I'm curious as well as I've got a couple customers considering switching from LTR.

It's still a work in progress - believe me, everybody in Engineering are busier than a Senator with a wad of dollar bills at a strip club trying to get all the projects that Marketing has committed us to done.
Motorola has been asking us to do a great deal of "stuff" for them - stuff that I Am Not At Liberty To Discuss Further.
As for pricing - sorry, not my job. You need to contact [email protected] and ask him.

Re: R2670A Service Monitor - Suggestions
From the limited amount of tuning I've tried with the TRBO radios, all the aligments are performed in analog mode anyway. If the repeater happens to be programmed as digital, the tuner software gives an error window stating "digital mode detected" and won't let you go any further.
