Output that activates on console transmit (CC Gold Elite)

Post by nmfire10 »

(CentraCom Gold Elite)

I've been asked to see if this possible and if so, make happen. I need some kind of dry contact or active high/low output that is active upon console transmit. Just using the desk mic PTT contact would be easy enough but won't do anything for the CIE PTT, headset PTT, or GUI PTT. I need something that will go active whenever the console is transmitting. People want a light on the desk to come on when the console is transmitting so those who seem to always have open mic problems will know they are making an idiot of themselves. I personally think it would be better to just learn how to not be an idiot, but I guess thats too complex.

As an alternative, I suppose I could tie a bunch of things from each mic together to do it but I'd rather find one common source for everything. I can tie into the CIE, CEB, or SpectraTAC. All are easy and right here in the room. Any suggestions?

I believe on the back of the CIE there is a mute output or a tx output, which you can use to mute other devices that may be making noise while you transmit. I would look at the back of that box and see what you can find. You'd then probably have to make a relay to flip something on.

Do you have a pin-out of those connectors back there?

unless you are already using relay keying for another application-you could go that route. "Course you would need an aux 1 or 11 for each radio resource. Just use the relay on the aux card(s) to control your indicator.

We have (2) 16 I/O boards, is that what you mean aux cards? I'm looking at all this in the Console Database Manager and I don't see what would allow me to control one with PTT. Can you elaborate a little bit more?

Edit---

I added RELAY KEYING to the capabilities of the resource. Now I see relay keying as a public auxio on that BIM (BIM 00 00 00, Auxio #5). I also hear the relay clicking on the BIM. Now how the hell do I connect something to it?

Now for the fun part. You need a 25pr cable from the backplane of the CEB card cage. Use the CC connector nearest to the I/O brd in question. Find the contact closures for AUX 5 on the punch block connected to your new 25pr cable. This information is available in the manual, but it is generally agreed that the designers of the aux I card were smokin' something. Many times it is easier to use your multi meter to find the active contacts on the punch block. Sorry for the delay in answering and I hope this helps.

No problem. This is separate from the 25 pair that carries the audio and tone keying stuff, correct? I'm already home so I can't just look at it to visualize it. If seperate, is this 25 pair for anything other than the aux card relays? Thanks for the help thus far. This forum has been a huge help in tricking out our console!

Using CEB relay keying gives you a PTT closure on individual channels.

The original post indicated a need for a PTT indication at the operator position.

The CCII Gold Elite installation manual says that you can get a PTT closure at the CIE [operator position] from relay K5 on the option board by installing jumper JU4 and removing jumper JU3.

Operator position or overall is fine, doesn't matter. Both OPs are right next to eachother.

I don't have a pinout of those terminals on the back though.
