vhf spectra scan problem

Post by ean633 »

i have a vhf high power spectra remote mount

the scan will not funcion properly when i turn the squelch up. it will only stop on chanels with activity with the squelch just above open. does my radio need to be retuned possibly?

it also emits a loud popping noise when checking the priority channel. i have opened the case and checked the caps and they dont appear to be leaking. the is no loud noise when i raise or lower the volume.

any help would be appreciated

thanks pete

There are a few different ways to set up scanning in Moto radios.

On the spectra (and a many other moto radios) when you have priorty scanning turned on (1st or 2nd priorty), the "popping" or audio holes you are hearing is when the radio is checking those two channels for activity. All radios do it. In time, you don't even notice it.

If there is a carrier on a priorty channel (distant station, wrong PL, etc) the radio will ALWAYS stop on those channels and not unsquelch (unless its a CSQ channel). This only happens on the two priorty channels, if programmed.

Other than that, you may have a squelch or programming issue. Usually, its a programming issue.
