Changing Spectra bandsplits after rebuild?

Post by d119 »

Hi Group,

Recently built a few ASTRO Spectra mobiles, and would like to convert the remaining Spectra pieces back into usable radios (403-433MHz Link Radios).

Anyone got a step by step on changing the MLM/Command Board bandsplits, etc? Maybe adding a few features?

Thanks.

To my knowledge, no one has been able to move the low split radios into something that
was useable. A number of people have tried to move the 403 to 433 Spectra mobiles and
always seem to run into a huge road block. Normally the RSS stops you from going outside
the band split. Hacks so far have not been able to crack that. Then there is the issue
of getting the VCO to work. After that that you have the problem of both the front end
for the receiver and the PA frequency change that they don't like.

Not an easy task. Most of the time radios in this split just get thrown away.

Thanks for the reply, I guess I should clarify...

The MLM and Command Boards in these radios are from 450-482MHz radios. The VCO's, PA, and preselectors are 403-433MHz range.

I want to know how to edit the MLM/Command Board to make the radio completely 403-433MHz again so it can be placed into link service.

The preselector, PA and VCO from the original Range 3 Spectras are now in working ASTRO Spectra mobiles.

Thanks.

If you have access to Lab software, changing memory location 605F will change the bandsplit.

63 is 403-433
64 is 428-470
65 is 450-482
68 is 482-512

Also

66 is 800 MHz
67 is 900 MHz
61 is 136-164
62 is 146-174

That will change the bandsplit. I think you will then have to reinitialize the command board (using the board replacement procedures) and then read/write the codeplug. Be sure and get the alignment values before initializing.

I believe that will do it. It has been a long time since I did one so I am not sure if I am forgetting something. I believe that will take care of everything but it might not change the test frequencies.

No that will NOT change the test frequencies or alignment points.
There should be plenty range 1 MLMs out there.
