Disable multikey on astro saber?

Disable multikey on astro saber?
I have a astro saber and I need to load just one key into it. This is my first experience with a multikey
radio and I having trouble getting a key into it.
I have many other single key astro's which I have loaded keys into. Thank god for infinate key retention!!!
Anyway is there a way do disable the multikey setup or can I get a single key into this radio and have it
function like my single key radios?
When I press the ptt/load key on the kvl I get the multikey option of where the key should go. I have tried slots 1-9 so far and still get the no/key tone when I press ptt on the radio with secure switch on encrypt.
The kvl reports passed when I try any of those slots. Still no/key tone when I transmit.
So basicaly I don't know what the hell I'm doing here. Is there something more I need to do in CPS?
I just need to get this radio functioning like the others.
kvl is a T3011DX, radio is a H04RDC9PW5AN-UCM, secure module is a NTN8967, software is CPS 4
Thanks

Re: Disable multikey on astro saber?
Read the radio with the CPS, go into the secure configuration and delete all key slots except for slot 1. Write the radio. Now you have a single key radio
Turn on your KVL, press the zero (0) key, then CLR, then enter. The display should show "0 ErASEd"
Press LOAD, then enter in your Key like 1234 5678 9ABC D012
When your loading your new key, the display will show
0.0 1234
0.1 5678
0.2 9ABC
0.3 D012
Press ENTER. Display will show "Id _ "
Type in 0001, then press ENTER. (display should show "0 rEAdY")
Now try loading your radio. Your loading Key 1 into your radio, but in the KVL, Key 1 in in memory location 0. Weird of Motorola for doing this.

Re: Disable multikey on astro saber?
Hi thanks for the reply. I'm a little confused here.
When looking in secure options in cps all the slots are deleted except the 1? So what's going on?
Is this all because the kvl is programmed wrong?
If I do what you say in the beginning of your instructions will this erase the key I have in the keyloader now?
If so, is there some other way to do this? I have far too many radios with this key in it and I don't want to rekey all of them. And unfortunately I don't remember what the key was. I should probably change it anyway.
If I do decide to do as you say will the kvl still work normaly in all my other single key radios?

Re: Disable multikey on astro saber?
If your KVL loads all your other radios fine, then your "problem" Astro is programmed wrong in the CPS.saberjerk wrote:Hi thanks for the reply. I'm a little confused here.

I just figured you knew your key, but if not, look into the CPS and make sure everything is programmed properly.
You may want to change keys anyway - good for security.
Re: Disable multikey on astro saber?
The first slot in a multikey radio, like the first slot in a KVL, is always 0. Starting an array or matrix at 0 is a common computer programming practice.saberjerk wrote:When I press the ptt/load key on the kvl I get the multikey option of where the key should go. If you examine the secure tabs in the conventional personality setup for this radio, you will likely find that they are all strapped to (or at least default to) the first slot, which is 0. If you keyfill this first or 0 slot, you should be good to go.
Re: Disable multikey on astro saber?
I've looked until I'm blue in the face on CPS. Any hints as what to look for?
I edited my previous post. What I said is that there is only one hardware key slot in the radio now.
I can look at the other radio's settings but things are somewhat different for the multikey.

Re: Disable multikey on astro saber?
So what I am getting here so far is that if the kvl loads all my single key radios I should load the
multikey radio? That is if the codeplug/cps is setup right?

Re: Disable multikey on astro saber?
Ok, let's see if we can clear the fog here.
Your 3011DX KVL stores keys in slots, numbered 0-F for a total of 16 slots.
Your multikey radio also stores keys in slots, also with a total of up to 16 slots.
Now, the furst hurdle is that for normal secure operations, these slots really don't have any bearing on each other.
So, to solve your particular dilemma, in your CPS, first look at the following section:
Radio Wide > Secure > Secure Hardware Encryption Multikey List
Notice that there are one or more keys and slots listed here. If you really want to emulate singlekey operation, remove all but the first slot. The "Key Name" is unimportant.
Now, under:
Conventional > Conventional Personality
Open up one of the personalities that you wish to use encryption with.
First, on the "Secure" tab, make sure that "Secure/Clear Strapping" is set to Select or Secure.
Now, on the "Secure II" tab, under the "Voice" section, set "Key Strapping" to Strapped, and set "Key Selection (HW)" to 1. This will reference the first key, even though the slot number is 0.
Repeat these steps for any other conventional personalities you wish to use encryption with.
Save the codeplug, burn into the radio, and load your key.
Remember, whatever slot the key you want to load is in on the KVL, when you press the PTT for the first time, it should then ask you, "X to Y", X being the KVL slot, and Y being the radio slot. You'll want to make sure that Y is set to 0.

Re: Disable multikey on astro saber?
ok, I found the problem. The transmit deviation was on 2.5khz. I gues secure mode won't work on narrow band. I also did notice that it was strapped to clear and wouldn't let me change it to select.
The radio was taking a key after all.
Thanks for your help
