I have a lowband HT750, and up until the other day, I wasn't aware that a portable antenna could be cut to match freqs. So, with that, I'd like some info on how to determine how long this portable antenna should be and the proper way to cut it. Any help would be appreciated. My frequencies are 44 Mhz range.
Thanks!

Re: Cutting/tuning lowband portable antenna
Most people just go ahead and use the antenna the
manufacturer provides for their portables. Cutting
or otherwise adjusting these kinds of antennas is at
best difficult. The results are hard to measure unless
you have sophisticated equipment to do so, owing to
the way the antenna is mounted. If you can't get
the current Motorola antenna for 44 mHz then you
might want to try fooling with an aftermarket unit such
as the one that Tessco offers which comes with the
Motorola 1/4"-32 threaded connector.

Re: Cutting/tuning lowband portable antenna
I bought an original Motorola antenna for my lowband P200,it came with a cutting chart. Does the lowband 750 use a stud antenna like the P200 or an SMA like the other bands?

From what I've read, I am 99% sure they do not use a SMA (as the Jedi).
Re: Cutting/tuning lowband portable antenna
If you have a lowband NAB6064 molded antenna, the cutting chart for the lowband HT750 antenna is shown along with instructions for cutting on page 5-6 of the HT series basic service manual. If you don't have the manual, PM me with a fax number and I'll provide it.
