Saber VCO

This topic may have already been covered, but I can't find it if it has. Is it possible to retune the VCO in a Saber? I'm not talking about swapping modules, but actually changing the coverage range of the VCO. Any ideas?

Yes you can but with extreme difficulty. First there are no published schematics or parts lists for the VCO modules, so you have to take your "best guess" as to part values. Second, the VCO module has components on both sides. You will have to remove the circuit board from the metal housing. Not very easy to do. At the depot we tried to "rebuild" some range three UHF VCOs when they became NLA. Six boards were removed, only two did not break. One of those two broke when trying to reassemble the VCO module. Definately not worth the time or effort.

What parts am I looking at trying to change? If its not a "stripline", similar to the X9000 or Spectra, I'm not even going to try it.
