MT-2000 Repeator Charger??? What???

Ok. I have a real good friend who is a State Trooper. In Tennessee. Their main dispatch is on LowBand. But their portable are highband VHF (155MHz). They have a charger for their portables in their car. Not just a normal charger. It has switches. Like REPEATOR and TRICKLE and RAC I believe. What is this unit called? Their portables are MT-2000. I know that when they are out of the car the dispatch on Lowband is relayed to their portables on 154.905. Hows this work and what'st called? Their mobiles are Kenwoods. They have two mobiles

I can't remember what it's called, but they pop up for sale here every so often. I think full price is in the $300-400 range. From what I can tell, It's basically a charger with mobile repeater controls built in. They would interface with the crossband repeater in the patrol car.

Car radio will RX on lo-band, retransmit out on hi-band. HT transmits on hi-band, car radio will retransmit on lo-band.

Old fashioned, but they work and work well if set up properly. North Carolina highway patrol uses them as well, but they are getting phased out as troopers get 800mhz HTs for either VIPER or local 800 systems. I've also heard that new cars are not getting mobile extenders even if the trooper is nowhere near an 800 system. A friend's brother bought his own hi-band HT and got the OK to get local law enforcement stuff programmed.

The charger just has a "Repeater" switch and a contact that senses when the radio is out of the charger and provides a switch signal to the "Extender" repeater unit in the trunk to activate. There are no repeater electronics in the charger.
