R2600C memory battery

Post by arlojanis »

My R2600C comes on it self calibrate mode and after calibrating, it seems to be locked-up. Problem is a 10 year old button battery. CTDI said to get a 27C2141 from Newark. Newark says that the battery is no longer available. Mouser was no help either. Does anyone know anything about getting a sub and any tips about replacing it?

The battery is actually a three cell Ni-Cad pack. It is located on the back side of the processsor card. It is soldered in place.

You must disassemble the machine and remove the processor card to gain access to the battery. If that sounds too complex, call the test equipment depot @ 800-323-6967. I'll bet they will replace the battery as part of a calibration flat rate [$475 to $675 depending on the model]

The actual battery in my unit said: "Plainview Batteries PMB 3.6 B" and measures 0.89 dia X 0.47 thick with welded on solder tabs. A local battery company may be able to replicate it once you remove it from the instrument.

I have found that it is a ni-metal hydride and may be rechargeable? Does the R2600 charge the battery? 3.6 volt, 150 mah battery.

Yes the 2600 does recharge the battery, however, I have never seen any of the techs at CTDI check to see if the charging circuitry is working. They replace the board if they suspect a problem.
