I am looking for assistance with integrating an Analog 800 spectra remote mount A9 control head and a VHF maxtrac with a PA system for Fire Station alerting. The maxtrac is working just fine using the 16 pin accessory connector. My problem is with the spectra. What is the best way to direct audio from this radio to the PA system. I'm using a Radio shack MPA-40 20 watt PA system. I tried wiring in the speaker connector from the control head to the Aux (RCA) connection and to the front Microphone connection. Both results with no audio being passed through the PA. I've tried unplugging the maxtrac and get the same results. My ultimate goal is the have the maxtrac set up for RX paging only (QCII) and the spectra for monitoring radio traffic throughout the station.
Thanks,
Spectra, Maxtrac and a PA system

Re: Spectra, Maxtrac and a PA system
On the Spectra there is a output that can feed a PA system with RX audio. It is independant of the radio's volume control. It does require a additional part in the radio, a pin and wire from the 15 pin connector, and ground.
On the Maxtrac there is pin 11, RX Audio, which you can feed thru a 15 uf capacitor along with shield ground to the AUX input on the PA amp. This is independant of the volume control setting on the radio.

Which pins do I use? These? 6 SPKR Hi for positive and 7 SPKR Lo for ground or can I use 15 Mic Hi/GND for ground? Will wrote:On the Spectra there is a output that can feed a PA system with RX audio. I'm using pins 1 and 16 and this setup is working just fine (so far). I'm not technically inclined just yet, but I'm learning. I surely would rather do something that is independent of the radio volume controls so that nosey firemen don't come around and screw with the volume control. Will wrote:On the Maxtrac there is pin 11, RX Audio, which you can feed thru a 15 uf capacitor along with shield ground to the AUX input on the PA amp. NO, you run the chace of grounding the speaker amplifier and ruining it.pacrat551 wrote: Which pins do I use? These? 6 SPKR Hi for positive and 7 SPKR Lo for ground or can I use 15 Mic Hi/GND for ground?
NO again, pin 15 IS mic hi on some versions.
"It does require a additional part in the radio, a pin and wire from the 15 pin connector, and ground" which IS pin 8.
Again, you run the chance of grounding the speaker amp in the radio.pacrat551 wrote: I'm using pins 1 and 16 and this setup is working just fine (so far). Use:"pin 11, RX Audio, which you can feed thru a 15 uf capacitor along with shield ground to the AUX input on the PA amp. This is independant of the volume control setting on the radio."
The + end of the capacitor goes to pin 11 and can be located in the cable or at the PA amplifier. Pin 7 is shield ground.
