Saber Display Microphone

I am looking for information on the Motorola Display Microphone NMN6169A and the NMN6150A. What is the difference
in these units? Can a NMN6150A be made to look like a NMN6169A? If so what changes have to be made? Which SVA unit
will the NMN6150A work with?

6150 is for a standard Saber.
6169 is for a System Saber.
You can talk and listen on them interchangeably but they
are not interchangeable as far as control functions. I can't
recall the details but I was once sent a 6169 after the
seller swore it would work okay on my standard Saber and
it had to go back because it did NOT work.

They also work for talking and listening on a Saber I but
all you get on the display is ********.

The SVA unit for these things is the 5487.

I've used a NMN6150 mic to control a Systems Saber 3. Works just fine if you remember what button does what.

The SVA was a SP unit, though.. HLN5487ASP02, IIRC, but I believe that was for a couple of extra lines to control a PAC-RT. The whole kit was Indiana State Police surplus.

Ok. nobody knows exact differencies of NMN6150 and NMN6169. But how about microphone for AVA when Astro Digital Saber is used? My AVA is compatible with Astro Saber, because it's NTN7227B.

Manual keep silence about mic for Astro Digital Sabler:

Four different types of mobile microphones are available for the ASTRO/SABER Vehicular Adapter: the HMN1056 Compact Microphone; the HMN1035 Palm Microphone; the full-featured NMN6150A Display/Keypad Microphone (for SABER radios); and the full-featured NMN6169A Display/Keypad Microphone (for SYSTEMS SABER radios).

All four mobile microphones are palm-type, weatherproof, cartridge microphones, with transistorized preamplifiers as an integral part of the cartridge. Each microphone is equipped with a push-to-talk (PTT) switch on the side has a coiled cord with an 8-pin connector that plugs into the microphone jack on the left side of the console.

In addition to the above, the NMN6150A and NMN6169A Display/Keypad Microphones, have a keypad and a display which duplicate the functions of the appropriate radio’s keypad and display. The NMN6186A also has a rotary-dial volume control.

Please help.

an NMN6150 mic wont work with an Astro saber. I tried the display is blank. It worked like a regular palm mic.

There is a very specific set of circumstances required to make a display microphone work with an ASTRO Saber. Firmware version in the radio is one of the critical items.

This thread is about the 6150 vs. the 6159, and I believe that the differences have been clearly explained.

There is no difference except for the keypad overlay. Either mic will work with either a regular Saber or a Systems Saber.

I.e. there is no display mic for Astro Saber which will run remote control functions and indication out of box? I dont like to mod anything or downgrade radios.

Or maybe any other VA for AS is avaliable with factory implemented display mic support?

That's exactly what I am saying. What you read in the aforementioned thread is the ONLY known working configuration of a display/control mic for the ASTRO Saber.

Hence the reason it was referred to in several posts as the "Holy Grail".

If there were other options, there would be abundant posts about them but that's it. What you see is what you get.

As a previous owner, I have to point out that this configuration was a "False Grail". We chose......Poorly.

It's an okay kit if all you need is VHF/UHF conventional. Can't have rebanding or Astro25 trunking in a 800 radio because as soon as you bump the firmware, poof, the HHCH capability disappears.
