Tips on how to prevent radio codeplug corruption
Hello ,
I was thinking there is so much discussion about why radios are being corrupted from being programmed so i thought maybe have a post where all of us programming exsperts can pitch in some ideas.

Don't disconnect power to the RIB, computer, or radio while in the write process....

Dont use crappy cables

If the RIB is powered by a 9V, make sure you have a fresh battery.

Make sure the computer is attached to a UPS in case of any power issues.

??????? The Motorola RIB does not adhere to the RS232 standards without modifications........escomm wrote:OEM OEM OEM OEM
Some computer serial ports do not work well with the OEM RIB.
Re: Tips on how to prevent radio codeplug corruption
I always attempt to read the device 3 or 4 times before every trying to load a codeplug. I like to make sure everything goes smoooooth!
May the Schwarz be with you.

Re: Tips on how to prevent radio codeplug corruption
Good advice is to also save a codeplug right after you read it. That way, if you screw it up, you can write it back like it was.
In God we trust. Everyone else, we run through NCIC, Thinkstream, and III.

Run the RIB power supply, and the computer on an UPS system during programming. Make sure the radio has a fresh/charged battery.

Dont screw around with software your not supposed to have, unless you are fully prepared to have an expensive paper weight...

So if someone buys the software from /\/\, they are guaranteed to never screwup a radio? That's news to me.............

Re: Tips on how to prevent radio codeplug corruption
All the above and I add/agree with:
None of this is any garuntee but it (and what everyone else posts) will certainly help minimize your chance of failure.
A corrupted codeplug isn't always user error (usually is though).
OEM cables
Fresh RIB batt.
Fresh Radio batt.
Use the thumb screw on the cable to radio.
If the radio begins to act strange with the cable connected. STOP... figure out why...
BE PATIENT. Don't rush yourself. Consider each step, avoid writing to the radio over and over because you keep missing changes you wanted to make.
For CDMs using a remote kit use the 20pin connection in the back of the radio!

Re: Tips on how to prevent radio codeplug corruption
I never said that, but I thought the basics were covered. How many times have you read " I couldn't wait to get the right software, so I was using lab and (insert how radio got screwed up) can anyone help?" Thats all I'm saying. The only time I've ever bricked a radio was when I knowingly did not follow one of the above tips.Grog wrote:Batwings21 wrote:Dont screw around with software your not supposed to have, unless you are fully prepared to have an expensive paper weight...

Re: Tips on how to prevent radio codeplug corruption
No, but if the radio does brick then you have full factory support. And if you're using OEM cables and an OEM rib, odds are that the flat-rate will be free.Grog wrote:Batwings21 wrote:Dont screw around with software your not supposed to have, unless you are fully prepared to have an expensive paper weight...

Re: Tips on how to prevent radio codeplug corruption
I have had problems with some freshly charged (pulled from the bank charger) honeywxxx batteries when reprogramming (cloning) in the field. Put on a Moto, read/write just fine.
Also only put in the radio what you really need to have in the unit. Not 1 master code plug with 48 personalities with 3 zones like I have seen some shops do. They just modify the zones for the user.
The larger the codeplug the longer it takes to load (a pain when cloning 2 or 3 hundred radios ) and with higher odds some could go wrong.
