Minitor II batteries ?

Post by arlojanis »

Motorola is no longer selling Miniotor II batteries. Battery Zone has a MH battery that comes with a note of caution to not leave on charger more than 12 hours. What manufacturers still make a Minitor II battery?

Just got 50 from Tesco, gave them out and was told a few days later thet the new ones where shorter than the old and would not make contact in the spare slot on the Amp Charger. They do work in the pager but have very little spring tension. They are about 1/16" shorter than the originals. They are black, unmarked batterys, I am going to have to find the paperwork to see who the manfacturer is.

Going to call Tesco next week and see if they have any other options.
Cause Motorola said so that's why

OK. If you find papers, please post Tessco part number.

TESSCO SKU for the Minitor II NiCad is # 300631, which is Empire Scientific Part # EPP-4974...
We have tried it and it is physically shorter than it should be. The positive tip design is less than desirable. Not only will you likely have problems in the extra battery slot on some chargers, you will probably have problems with getting it to charger in some pagers that have a worn or dirty
positive charging contact.

We have switched to the Multiplier NiCad Battery for the Minitor II, which is Multiplier Part #M4974... It has the correct length. Our source for Multiplier batteries is COMARK Distributing, Inc., Raleigh, NC... 800-777-2708 Larry

If you have been having difficulty obtaining the NiCad for Keynote pagers, Multiplier also makes a NiCad for the Keynote.

TESSCO stocked the Multiplier M4974 in the past, but when Multiplier had a delivery problem,
TESSCO switched over to the cheaper Empire battery. I asked TESSCO to continue to offer the Multiplier battery, but they refused... So much for being "Your Total Source" supplier.

The tip design and length of the Minitor II battery have always been critical to the performance of the Minitor II. Another issue is how the shrink wrap is applied over the 2 cells. Long ago, I got my customers to use only the Motorola OEM battery. With that accomplished, their intermittent
ON-OFF failures went away. I was disappointed when Motorola discontinued their battery. I talked with a USA manufacturer of 2-way and pager batteries. He explained that the current supply problem of NiCad batteries like the Minitor II battery, has to do with supply of certain size NiCad cells from reputable cell manufacturers such as Sanyo. Many cell manufacturers have focused on newer technologies and have deleted from their product line some NiCad cell sizes like the N cell used to make Minitor II batteries.

Give the Multiplier battery a try.
