MaxTrac Rx Issue

Post by a_j_b »

I'm new a newer bench tech and have little experience with older models. We typically deal with business class radios CP200, HTs etc. So I'm a little lost here...

Our field tech brought back a MaxTrac from a customer that was using it with a Tone Remote Adaptor. The issue was the radio was stuck on Monitor and passing all radio traffic on it's programmed frequency through to the Tone Remotes. Now it's on my bench; I was able to read the radio. I'm not able to make it unmute to a test tone though it flashes Busy and the MON light remains on no matter what I plug into it or verify in the programming. There are no tones coming from it as a result of pressing buttons, etc. Appears to be a 2 mode model with only 1 mode programmed.

There are two model numbers located on the radio on two seperate stickers.

Bottom of housing: HUD1747A2

Wow so, I realized I was doing a few things wrong. I connected the appropriate jumper to the 16pin in the back to get audio and connected a grounded mic to the front of the radio. It bench tests fine now. The only problem now is what it passes all audio through itself to the tone remotes. 100% unsquelched to the TRA. It did previously work fine.

Can you confirm they are tapping the RX audio for the tone remote from pin 11 in the Maxtrac? If the receive audio is being supplied from pin 11 on the 16 pin connector, look at the position of JU-551.

When JU551 is installed in position A the output is flat (not de-emphasized) and is not muted by the radio squelch. When in position B the output audio is both squelch muted and de-emphasized. I would assume since it's worked for a long time, the jumper is in the correct position and possibly the muting transistor has gone defective. I don't have a manual in front of me, so I can't give any component numbers to check.
