Hey all,
I need to know the setting on the MT2000 software to enable the user
chirp on the Pre MDC.
(You here it on cops all the time...its a nextel like chirp when the
officer keys up)
I am not talking about the MDC tone, but the one you hear when you key up.
Any help appriciated.
Thanks,

Re: Pre MDC User Chirp on Software???
The "tone" or "chirp" you're apparently talking about is called a
"talk permit" and is used on trunked systems to tell you that the
system is set to accept your transmission. If you're on a trunked
system you have it already; if you don't then forget about it or set
your radio up for the pre-MDC ID and drive your friends crazy.

Re: Pre MDC User Chirp on Software???
The beep-beep is, as stated above, a trunking feature. It has nothing to do with MDC1200 or PTT-ID. It is telling you the trunking system has granted you the channel and you can speak (hence the name "talk-permit tone"). You can not and will not get a radio to do that in conventional analog mode. The only thing you can do is have single beeeeeeeeeep for duration of the pre-time on the MDC-ID. Set the MDC1200 system for PRE-ID in the MDC1200 system settings. Under more options or something like that, you will see a setting for PRE-TIME. This will be the duration of dead air before it squawks the ID. The actual MDC1200 PTT-ID squawk itself is 120ms which comes immediately after that pre-time expires.
So, if you set the pre-time for 400ms, you will have a total of 520ms of beeeeeeeeeeeep out the speaker when you key up the radio. You an lengthen or shorten that pre-time setting to your likening, however if this is on a repeater, I wouldn't set it for anything less than 300ms.

Re: Pre MDC User Chirp on Software???
You also have to enable the MDC "sidetone."
Re: Pre MDC User Chirp on Software???
ahh got it, thanks guys.
I am on a Repeater, but not the towns trunking system. Only PD and DOT has the trunked.
Us FD folks have repeaters built into each truck.
Most of the department has Ericsson Panther 500p's and some have personal Vertex Standards.
I wanted to go with a MT2000, (the reason I posted this), but I cant find a good priced one.
haha.
Well thanks for the help guys!
