Minitor V Long Tone - Can timing be modified

Post by RBMTS »

Hello everyone. I would like to set a Minitor 5 pager to a particular group page that has a timing of only 3.7 seconds. It's too short for the standard long tone setting and the V will not alert. It's an odd timing I know, but it has been verified. Typically with some of the portable radios (like the HT1000), the long tone timing can be modified down to something like 2 seconds (as I remember) - setting the radio paging parameter to 3 seconds for the long tone works just fine. I don't see anything in the M5 software that allows such a timing change. Might anyone have any suggestions? Can the timing perhaps be modified by way of a hex edit to the code plug?

Thanks for any help.

Set it up as an A-B with the same tone & then select the steady alert tone from the pick list, or get the console reprogrammed.

Thanks - however the M5 PPS will not allow the same tone in the A & B fields (using the 114 version). Reprogramming the console is not an option since this is a area wide alert being sent out on a mutual aid channel by a local authority that we want to monitor. Any other thoughts?

Version 1.4.0 (which you can download for free from Motorola) will give an error message about a tone frequency error but the tone will stay.

Make your Min 5 program accept the same tone...

Open Version 1.4 in a hex editor:
Go to offset 04569B(hex) or 284315(decimal) and change the 75 to an EB

I HAVE NO IDEA if the pager will alert or not, this just lets you program in 2 tones that are less than the required 1.55% (or whatever it is) into the pager.

Good luck

Thanks for your help guys. Unfortunately I am still not able to get the pager to respond to this alert. It has to be a timing thing. So do you think there is anything in the codeplug itself that designates the timing on a "Group" tone, or is that built into the firmware of the pager? Modifying the Group tone timing to 3 seconds instead of 4 would work pefectly. Thanks again.
