1997 Chevy Tahoe Antenna Install

Post by fireguy810 »

Hello Folks

I'm looking to install 3 antennas on the roof of my 1997 Chevy Tahoe. A lowband, VHF, and UHF. I'm going to put them in line formation. I've unscrewed the interior lights and their doesnt seem to be much room to snake the coax around. What is the best way to go about this? Do I remove the entire headliner and if so, how do I do that?
Also, whats the best route to run the coax to the front of the vehicle?

Any sugestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

What radios do you own?: HT1550's, X9000's, CDM1550's

you are going to have to run the coax down one of the pillars so start there by removing all of the plastic around which ever one you choose and that should also give you access to the area between the roof and headliner to snake your coax thru.

I have the same vehicle and I just went ahead and took the entire headliner out. To get the headline out took about an hour and a half my first time. You have to take out almost every piece of trim, including those cloths hangers in the rear and the grab bars in the back and front. I had to do all that to install 5 antennas at first. I ran my coax to the rear seats were the Astro Spectras are installed. 2 of the coax cables went straight to the console for a 800mhz Spectra and Lowband Maxtrac. I ran them through the back seat and went under the carpet and came up into the console. Probably not the best way, but it works.

I can send some pics if you want.

Are you doing a remote mount install or dashmount?

Stu has a very impressive install, as soon as I thought of a tahoe install, I thought of his truck. I know I have the pics from the yahoo page saved somewhere for inspiration for my future installation.
