After my g/f knocked my MTX 8000 B7 off the counter top onto concrete a couple times one week, I noticed the speaker would cut out randomly. It now seems that I have to bang on it to get it to work properly sometimes. I notice that if I push in with my thumb on the speaker grill on the radio that it will work, but if I let pressure off it will not work. It still transmits and receives the traffic, just doesn't play through the speaker. I've taken the radio apart and dont see any cut wires or anything loose. Is this something common and can it be fixed easily?
Thanks!

If you can get hold of a speaker mic, put it on and try it again..then post back the results..

it works fine with a speaker mic.
Re: MTX8000 speaker issues.
The Jedi portables use a metal clip to hold the speaker firmly to the radio front. It is sort of an issue, because refurb kits do not include the clip, which you have to transfer from the old front to the new one. When people forget to do this, you get speaker issues.
Perhaps the impact of your portable knocked this clip loose?

The speaker is soldered onto the flex assembly, so a loose clip shouldn't cause it to cut out. I'd think it is more likely one of the tiny wires which connect the flex solder points to the internal workings of the speaker is broken. Sometimes you can see the break, sometimes you can't depending on where it is. A new speaker may be in order.

ah upon further inspection of the speaker and flex cable i see that the solder is loose/cracked on one of the speaker terminals. hopefully i can solder this back together as the only refurb kit was able to locate cost more than i paid for this radio lol.

I put some more solder on the connection and it appears to have made the connection solid now. Thanks for everyone's input as I was about to throw the radio under one of our ladder truck's tire!
